July 13th - Ireland Part 4 - Trad on the Prom

Hi, welcome back!

Today started off with us wandering around the city in search of breakfast. We stumbled on a place called Bake Box, which had a display case full of incredible-looking donuts. I ended up picking an Oreo donut, and it was every bit as good as it looked.

After that, we spent some time exploring the city and eventually found ourselves at Mutton Island Causeway. We walked along the path and spotted plenty of seaweed clinging to the rocks, seabirds diving for fish, and even a seal resting on a rock, which was definitely a highlight.

There was a Norwegian cruise ship in the distance

Once we made our way back into town, we stopped by a market right next to the harbor and poked around the various stalls for a while.

Once we were finished, it was lunchtime, so I grabbed something to eat. I chose bruschetta di pomodoro from a spot right on Eyre Square called Gatto Rosso. It was delicious, loaded with garlic, and the tomatoes were perfectly sweet and fresh.

After lunch, we boarded a bus and headed to Leisureland, a local leisure center and concert venue. There, we had private Irish Riverdance lessons led by Francis Fallon, a world champion riverdancer. The lessons were so much fun, and now I’d definitely be interested in learning even more Riverdance moves sometime in the future. Below are some things we learned in the lessons.

Once we got back, we showered and changed, then went out again to a shopping center, where we grabbed some smoothies. I picked the Mango Pro flavor, which had mango, pineapple, banana, orange juice, mango frozen yogurt, and whey protein. It was really sweet, tropical, and refreshing.

To finish off the day, we went to see the show Francis was performing in tonight: Trad on the Prom. The performance featured traditional Irish music by world-renowned musicians (each of them with their own albums) alongside world champion Irish dancers. It was absolutely spectacular and easily one of those “must-see” experiences if you’re ever in Galway.

And that's all for tonight! Check back again soon!
