July 8th - Another School Day

Welcome back!

Today was a pretty simple school day filled with small surprises.

I got up fresh and early to start getting ready for my 8:30 class, when suddenly, the fire alarm went off! At the college where my classes are held, the rule is to wait one minute; if it keeps ringing longer, evacuate. I wasn’t sure how my residence college handled drills, so I just assumed it was the same. The alarm lasted about a minute, so I kept getting ready and went downstairs, hoping to grab some breakfast. Instead, I was immediately herded into the chapel, where everyone in the college had gathered. The fire warden came out and told us we were too slow. Then he started dismissing groups. I managed to slip out with one since I needed to get to class soon (but also still wanted breakfast).

Breakfast today was two eggs, beans on toast, and orange juice. Then, I went to technical communications.

After my class finished, it was time to run some errands, including getting my laundry done.

I also made sure to stop for lunch. I went back to the Covered Market (and took pictures this time) and found a tiny spot called Donburi Inn. I ordered the roasted duck don, and it was incredible. The duck was meaty, fatty, and just hit the spot. Seriously, what more could I ask for?

The Covered Market. As you can see, it's Alice in Wonderland themed.

Roasted Duck Don. SO GOOD!

After lunch, I wrapped up my errands and found a quiet spot in the Exeter Fellows’ Garden to read over the chapter on Hinduism for my world religions class. Then it was off to the class itself, where we took a quiz and listened to a lecture.

Once class was over, I finished up my laundry and took a quick nap before dinner.

Dinner tonight at the college was a pasta bolognese bake with mixed vegetables and carrot cake for dessert. Very nice!

Afterward, I spent some time chatting with people in my program. Later, I went back to the Fellows’ Garden to read the chapter on Buddhism, then capped off the evening by visiting the Exeter College Bar. I tried their house-brewed ale and played a few rounds of billiards with Connor.

My view while reading. I'll never get tired of it!

The college is always beautiful at night

That's it for today! See ya!
